History of iPod

Nowadays music plays an essential part in one's life. If we go for a walk at the city, we will see a lot of people with earphone plugged in. Did you know that this trend only start in mid 2000's ? And iPod, a product by Apple company plays an important part in this trend.

On 23 October 2001, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple announce iPod which only compatible with Mac with 5GB hard drive with the motto, '1000 songs in your pockets'

The lack of sales from the iPod had make Apple introduced the 2nd Generation iPod on July 2002. This time, compatible with Windows and Apple. On 28 April 2003, Apple announced iTunes Music Store that holds 200,000 songs with 99 cent price for each song. Along with this are also 3rd Gen iPod which is thinner and lighter. Number of iPods sold through 2003 is 2 millions

The success of iPod had drive Apple to introduced the iPod mini which is available on 5 different colours on January 2004. On January 2005 the iPod Shuffle was introduced. iTunes Music Stores also debut in Japan to widen the market of Apple. iPod Nano was introduced to replaces iPod mini and becomes best selling music player EVER. On October, Apple unveils 5th Gen iPod which can view videos and pictures apart from music. This was a huge success.

Apple made a new improvement yet again, introducing iPod Touch with wi-fi connections and multi touch interface on September 2007. iPod Mini was discontinued at 2005. 


Till now there is 3 version of iPod that is iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle.
